It’s a celebration! Champagne Brewing for IWCBD.

It’s International Women’s Day! We celebrated early however, by inviting 12 women brewers to come in on Saturday March 5th and cook up something very special…
We are now in our fifth year of joining breweries around the world for International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD). See all the participating breweries here: https://unitebrew.org/. A theme for the resulting beer is set every year, and (in spite – or perhaps because – of it all) in 2022 we’re celebrating!

Brewer Julie marshalled the troops and they set to work on wicked-strong Belgian Blonde ale. The plan is to finish the beer with celebratory champagne yeast, and to give it some orange character with late additions of Amarillo hops and orange blossom. Like a Buck’s Fizz – only better. To show they meant business, the team went right ahead and maxxed-out our oversized mash tun without even flinching…

We celebrate the achievements of women on International Women’s Day, while renewing our efforts to break the barriers to equality. IWCBD is about trying to get as many women involved in brewing as possible. Let’s face it – the brewing industry has, in the recent past, over-indulged itself with laddish culture. Women have a far prouder history in the (9000 year old!) beer industry. Now, it’s great to see our products and workplaces demonstrably improve as more women get involved.

In the spirit of celebration, we are calling this special beer ‘Carnival’. We look forward to packaging it later this month. The beer will be canned and made available online. We will also serve the beer in our Malton Taphouse and at the legendary BEERTOWN festival https://www.beertownmalton.com/ (tickets available now!). It just remains for us to say huge thanks to everyone who got involved in the brewday. You are more than welcome (and we say to everyone as it happens) to drop in anytime, quiz us on what we are up to and ask us about what it’s like to work in brewing.
