Brass Castle Gold Found at Iconic Hebden Bridge Pub

The gold reward that was hidden within the artwork for Brass Castle Brewery’s ‘Bigger Picture’ series of beer cans has finally been traced to Hebden Bridge.

Brass Castle released nine canned beers during the year, the labels of which could be pieced together to form a fantasy map of Yorkshire, giving clues to a final treasure spot.  Unique artwork was created by Leeds-based artist Claudia Bowler.  As the final beer in the collection of nine cans was launched, sleuths and treasure hunters assembled all the clues and converged on Hebden Bridge.

And now this year’s treasure has been claimed.  The gold coins were tracked by the winning intrepid prospector to West Yorkshire’s first community-owned pub – the fabulous Fox And Goose in Hebden Bridge.  The Fox and Goose is a Hebden Bridge gem and Halifax & Calderdale CAMRA Pub Of The Year 2019.  The gold cache hidden there by Brass Castle is certainly substantial enough to guarantee the winner several hundred pints of beer! 

Plans are now afoot for next year’s beer-inspired Bigger Picture treasure hunt, which will feature artwork showing the North of England and human alterations to the landscape.

The final beer in the 2019 Bigger Picture series is a toasted coconut imperial stout, called ‘Jack-In-Irons’. Jack-In-Irons is a mythical giant of Yorkshire lore who haunts lonely roads. He is reported as being seen draped in chains, wielding a large spiked club and wearing the heads of his victims.
